The regional government is funding the project to convert the priest's house at the Ethnographic Museum of Puerto Lumbreras (13/03/2011)

Includes comprehensive refurbishment of the manor house built in the nineteenth century and the adaptation of the more than 7,000 square meters around it and transformed into a public park

The Ministry of Public Works and Planning, through the Directorate General of Planning and Housing, has funded with € 150,000 the competition for the drafting of the rehabilitation project of the Casa del Cura, a nineteenth century building that will house the future of Puerto Lumbreras Ethnographic Museum.

The jury unanimously awarded the first prize to 'Things and cases of Puerto', designed by the architects Ana Belén López Plazas and Joachim Kraft.

The second place went to the paper entitled 'Driving Miss Daisy', and the third in the project 'The playful garden reversible. "

La Casa del Cura is located in an estate of over 7,000 square meters, located in an area of ​​expansion of the town of Puerto Lumbreras towards the hamlet of El Esparragal, surrounded by orange and olive trees.

It is a manor house built by Juan Arcas and inhabited for years by Alberto Marzal.

The main house, with a typical structure of rural farmhouse has a floor area of ​​over a thousand square feet on two floors.

The farm also has a well and another smaller home that served as house keepers and place of storage of farm implements.

The proposal won the competition of ideas will recover both existing buildings and the environment, to create the Ethnographic Museum of the municipality and a public park.

The museum will feature a permanent exhibition hall, classrooms for training workshops, a tourist focal point, an audiovisual room and a music library, among other agencies.

In the land surrounding the property will recover the natural elements and thus respect for the configuration of your traditional garden as a garden typology.

The Director General of Planning and Housing, Antonio Navarro, said that "this ambitious project in the heart of Puerto Lumbreras, will become a landmark of culture and history of the town."

The grant awarded by the regional government falls within the program 'Drafting of architectural projects', for the recovery of both buildings and public spaces of interest.

Navarro noted that "an increasing number of projects presented by local councils, as the Puerto Lumbreras, are sensitized to the need to revitalize and preserve the regional architecture."
