The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras organizes the sessions against discrimination of ethnic minorities (07/04/2011)

The Mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, presented this seminar in the European project "+ RESPECT, which works to eradicate discrimination against Roma and other ethnic minorities.

The ceremony was also attended by the Councillor for Social Policy, M ª Angeles Tunisia and the Regional Director of the Gypsy Secretariat Foundation in the Region of Murcia, Jesús Ruíz Samerón.

The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, through the Department of Social Policy, participates in the European project "+ RESPECT" funded by the European Fundamental Rights and Justice, which works to eradicate discrimination against Roma and other European ethnic minorities.

The "+ RESPECT" includes a series of actions aimed at giving prominence to the rights of citizenship and full participation in society of the Roma.

As part of this project envisages the completion of this seminar that presents the results of the project, both municipal and international level, and create a forum for innovative practices will be presented on the project's target group.

Pedro Antonio Sánchez, emphasized "that the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras have taken action to study and analysis of the Roma, as well as participatory workshops and cultural events, as well as courses on social skills for people at risk of exclusion social. "

Finally Sanchez also noted that "have implemented various actions under the project have gone to every part of the county, and in which all councils have been implicated as the social integration of ethnic minorities requires the effort and the work of all, especially in education and training. "

Among the countries that participated in this European project highlights Italy, appearing as lead partner by the Italian National Association of Municipalities, as well as municipalities and associations in other countries such as Sweden or Belgium.

The 'Fundamental rights and citizenship', which is part of the project '+ Respect', aims to promote the development of a European society based on respect for fundamental rights, strengthening civil society and encouraging an open dialogue transparent and regular dialogue on these rights set out in the Treaty on European Union.
