Declared Cultural Heritage listed by the Peñas de Béjar archaeological site in Puerto Lumbreras I (25/07/2011)

The site I Peñas de Béjar habitat corresponds to a fortified prehistoric Bronze Age (Argaric), framed chronologically in the second millennium BC.

Already more than a dozen archaeological sites classified as Assets of Cultural Interest in the town in recent months.

The Peñas de Béjar archaeological site in Puerto Lumbreras I has been declared of Cultural Interest by the General Directorate of Fine Arts and Cultural Assets of the Region of Murcia.

Specifically, the site corresponds to a fortified prehistoric habitat of the Bronze Age, framed chronologically in the second millennium BC.

The purpose of cataloging the Peñas de Béjar deposit is to protect and preserve the archaeological heritage of the locality.

According to the Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Maribel Martinez, "these sites help to convey the history of the town at different times, and this is more than a dozen fields declared of Cultural Interest in the town over the past months ".

Thus, the archaeological site is housed in the vicinity of Cortijo de la Rambla de Bejar, one of the northern heights of the Sierra formwork on a hill well protected by natural defenses.

Thus, the site was found for the first time in 1991, documented numerous constructive remains associated with archaeological material Argaric affiliation.

Subsequently, we studied the site again, and found several stretches of wall built of stone laid dry without styling, along with masonry walls, ceramic remains associated Argar.

After cataloging of this site, the general direction of Cultural Property in collaboration with the Municipality of Puerto Lumbreras continues working on other cases to protect various prehistoric archaeological sites in the locality.

In this sense, the Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Maribel Martinez, said that "in recent months are now over a dozen fields declared of Cultural Interest in the town."

Among the newly protected sites include White Rock, Cave of the Lightning, or cistern Poveda belonging to Roman times.
