'Explum' shows a dozen proposals emerging artists in Puerto Lumbreras (28/03/2012)

The committee has selected 12 works from more than 700 entries received

The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, accompanied by the mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Pedro Antonio Sanchez, today released the ninth edition of the International Competition of Contemporary Art 'Explum', held in the town of March 31 to 20 April to showcase the work of 12 national and international artists.

The presentation of the event which also was the director Miguel Angel Cayuela, the counselor said to bet on an event of this nature where industry "new trends and support for emerging artists" supposed "role model".

Cruz said the work of the selection committee, which "has been difficult in choosing the works to be exhibited from March 31" as "have been over 700 entries received," and congratulated the Municipality of Puerto Lumbreras to be part of the "network of resistance of the culture of the region and the national scene," a network "increasingly dense."

The selection of this year, chaired by the director of 'Explum', and formed by the independent curator and critic Ivan Lopez Munuera Spanish, Guatemalan Commissioner Emiliano Valdés and the Mexican artist Anibal Catalan, has developed the theme of the itself around the idea of ​​'architectural space'.

Thus, all the works in the exhibition reflect about the space from different points of view of each artist, creating a heterogeneous discourse.

The meeting, which began in 2004, will feature local artists and international prestige, as Carlos Irijalba, featuring in 'Explum' a work that has been highlighted in the 20 'Arc', the Asturian Laviada with Irma photographic work, or installation of Radigales Enrique Zaragoza.

With them, it also highlights the participation of Valencian Guillem John with a series of maps, or the Mexican Luis Carlos Hurtado drawing.

Moreover, among the selected works will be photography through digital prints Maria Luisa Murillo Chilean and audiovisual work with video projection of Valladolid Eduardo Hurtado.

Finally, the exhibition will remain at the Cultural Center of the Elven House until April 20, will feature art installations of Cadiz Daniel Silvo and works of artists Madrid Mallo-Peñalba-Monteserín, Raul Diaz, Cristina Garrido and Detext.
