The Full Council calls for continued funding for the European food aid program (09/02/2013)

The City proposes an agreement between the State, civil society organizations and representatives of the food industry that allows the use of food to be allocated to disadvantaged families.

Puerto Lumbreras 7308 kilos of food allocated during 2012 to needy families through social services.

The Municipal Council of the Municipality of Puerto Lumbreras unanimously adopted a motion requesting that funding be maintained European food aid program for the most deprived persons for the period 2014-2020.

Specifically, the Agri-Food Assistance Program is established by the European Union and managed by the Spanish Agricultural Guarantee Fund (FEGA).

Thus, the program offers people with less basic food through food banks and the Red Cross.

In this sense, the Councillor for Social Policy, Maria Angeles Tunisia, explained that "this motion ask the European Council to maintain funding program that will help people who go through special economic difficulties."

Similarly, the council asks for strengthened public funding for the Food Bank through the State Budget.

This policy would increase support for social services provided by government to the attention of the groups affected by the crisis.

In this regard, Tunisia has said that "since local governments are working to optimize and improve direct care to the neediest people."

Finally, through the motion the council requests that promote an agreement between the State, civil society organizations and representatives of the food industry that allows efficient use of food safe as do other countries.

Finally, he explained that "the City of Puerto Lumbreras allocated during 2012 a total of 7,308 kilos of food staples to the poorest families. Thus benefiting more than 400 citizens of the food program of Social Services, and has announced that "from the session we will launch new campaigns to collect food during 2013 in collaboration with local associations and groups to continue to help those most in need."
