The Municipality of Puerto Lumbreras launched a solidarity campaign to collect food (20/02/2013)

Under the slogan 'There are many who need your help' the City and Guilds of Holy Week have launched a solidarity campaign to collect food which will run throughout the month of March.

The Municipality of Puerto Lumbreras, in collaboration with Easter brotherhoods of the town, has organized a solidarity campaign to collect food during the month of March.

This morning, the Councillor for Social Policy, Maria Angeles Tunisia, and the Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Maribel Martinez, presented the campaign along with the presidents and representatives of the Holy Week Brotherhoods of the resort.

In this sense, the Councillor for Social Policy, Maria Angeles Tunisia, explained that "this is an initiative that aim to help disadvantaged families in Puerto Lumbreras, by involving all the brothers and citizens who want to collaborate."

Thus, among the staples that can be donated include rice, pasta, pulses, oil, canned food, milk, juice and infant cereal, then milk and baby food, among others.

The food collection will take place throughout the month of March to coincide with Easter.

Thus, citizens interested in donating nonperishable food staples, they can do so throughout the month through the Holy Week Brotherhoods or by calling 968 402 071.

They can also donate food to the church Nuestra Señora del Rosario on March 1, 21 March and 25 March, coinciding with the Triduum in honor Ntro Besapié.

Once all the food collected will be distributed to disadvantaged families or at risk of social exclusion.

In conclusion, Tunisia explained that "in these difficult economic times we must be closer to the population weaker and more difficult to secure and the needs of families who for various reasons are in a disadvantaged position."

This initiative is part of the whole solidarity campaigns organized by the Department of Social Policy in collaboration with the municipality associations and groups.

During 2012 the Social Services distributed a total of 7,308 kilos of food staples to the poorest families in the municipality.
