Puerto Lumbreras raises awareness on the use of water resources to coincide with World Water Day (15/03/2013)

The Municipality of Puerto Lumbreras has launched a program of activities to promote social awareness coinciding with the celebration during 2013 the International Year of Cooperation in the field of water.

Exhibitions, talks school, educational workshops and tours of the new Water Walking Puerto Lumbreras make this new program which will run throughout the month.

The Municipality of Puerto Lumbreras, through the Department of Agriculture, Water and districts, has designed a program of activities to mark World Water Day which includes numerous initiatives and activities that promote social awareness and good habits in water use.

Councilman of Agriculture, Water and districts, José María Parra, along with the Councillor for Sustainable Development, Salvadora Martinez this morning the new programming which "aim to publicize the use of water systems in the history of municipality, as well as raise awareness about the importance of harnessing this natural resource. "

So, have explained that "initiatives are planned to coincide with the celebration during 2013 the International Year of Cooperation in the field of water."

The program will begin on Friday March 15th at 20:30 with the opening of the exhibition 'Water for Life' will remain on display until April 8 with visiting hours from Monday to Friday from 11.00 to 14.00h and from 17.00 21.00 h.

The exhibition is on loan from Segura basin, through La Casa del Agua Santomera and incorporates educational panels and works audiovisules showing water use systems.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, 17 has organized a day of hiking in the Water Route of Puerto Lumbreras is constituted as an urban itinerary which discloses the different systems of collection, use and distribution of water retained in the town of Puerto Lumbreras and surrounding areas.

It is a circular path, which can be done on foot or by bicycle, with a total length of 2300 meters.

At each stage of the signal path which is situated provides textual and graphical information relating to the various assets that comprise the water route.

In this sense, Parra explained that the urban water route reveals the visitor and local population the assets related to the feedback systems (luminaries), storage (rafts), distribution (ditches) and use (sources, sinks, mills) water present in the town of Puerto Lumbreras and its surroundings, as well as the choice of the location of the population by the founders of the town, due to the possibility of water supply.

Another initiative planned is a puppet theater in the Reina Sofia Park on Friday March 22 at 5:00 p.m. for children to learn in a fun way the need to save water is a scarce natural resource.

It has also organized three lectures at the Institute of Nogalte Rambla next March 20 aimed at students of ESO 1 and delivered by technicians Public Water Utility.

The educational sessions will address the World Water Day, the human right to water and sanitation, exemplary action on water use, or the various campaigns to raise awareness about the proper use of water in different areas.

Finally, the council of Agriculture, Water and districts, José María Parra thanked the cooperation of different agencies such as the Public Water Utility of the Region of Murcia, Segura basin through La Casa del Agua or Santomera water supply company in the municipality Aqualia, collaborating on this new program.
