The hamlet of La Station will improve the quality of reused water to be treated in the sewage treatment plant of Puerto Lumbreras (19/08/2013)

The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, and the Mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Maria Angeles Tunisia, today inaugurated the works of the main pumping sewage from the village of La Station to the main municipal sewage.

The owner of Agriculture and Water said that "this new infrastructure will improve the treatment of wastewater from the village by conduction to the modern sewage Puerto Lumbreras, equipped with a powerful tertiary treatment that will enable safe reuse of water for irrigation" .

This action, which will allow the removal of the sewage facilities of the Station, outdated and small footprint, includes the construction of a gravity collector about a mile and a line drive seven miles long.

The total budget of the works that will serve a population of 6,000 inhabitants and about 1,000 cubic meters per day, amounting to one million euros which will be co-funded by 80 percent the Cohesion Fund of the European Union.

The work is included in the General Plan of cleansing and purifying of the Region of Murcia, which began in 2001, and has involved the planning and coordination of the actions of sanitation and treatment over the whole region, with infrastructure construction in the 45 municipalities in the region.

The plan includes the construction of 48 large sewage and fifty small treatment plants and a network of 350 km of collectors that serve 99 percent of the urban population.

The Region of Murcia is the only Spanish community that recovers almost one hundred per cent of the water and removes 98 percent of the pollutant load.
