The Full Council approves new nursery school name 'Juan Lopez' recognition of the first mayor of Puerto Lumreras democracy (15/10/2013)

This new building, which is adapted to the social and educational needs of children aged 0-3 years has: six classrooms, a dining room, bedrooms, bathrooms, a playground, a multipurpose room, offices, kitchen and storage.

Juan Lopez, first mayor of democracy in Puerto Lumbreras

Juan Lopez Garcia was the first mayor elected in the democratic era in the town of Puerto Lumbreras, and died last June in his hometown.

He was born on November 23, 1929, in the midst of a modest family of farmers.

He earned the title of Master of Primary Education in 1955 and served as such all his life in Lorca, in Góñar and Puerto Lumbreras, in the parish schools that consisted of two classrooms who ran himself and his wife Asuncion.

Coinciding with this period served as Justice of the Peace, and in 1977 was appointed Director of Sacred Heart College, where he served continuously until his retirement in 1995.

In 1979, the first municipal elections held under the 1978 Constitution and Lopez headed, as an independent, the list of the Democratic Center Union (UCD) party chaired by the then Prime Minister Adolfo Suarez.
