Puerto Lumbreras gets the distinction of 'City of Science and Innovation', Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (07/11/2013)

Secretary General for Science, Technology and Innovation, M ª Luisa García Poncela has awarded the distinction to the mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, M ª Ángeles Tunisia, in a ceremony held in Móstoles Technology Park.

The city has earned the 'City of Science and Innovation' after boosting action plans that promote energy efficiency and environmental friendliness to become 'Sustainable City'.

Puerto Lumbreras has been one of the four municipalities of Spain who have earned the distinction this year of 'City of Science and Innovation' with which they become part of a network to promote innovative projects or scientific in the locally.

The Ministry of Science and Innovation, through the Ministry of Research, Development and Innovation, has distinguished itself as "City of Science and Innovation" to Puerto Lumbreras.

This distinction is awarded to those municipalities that have demonstrated their effort and commitment to R & D, creating opportunities to strengthen and promote science and innovation from the municipal level.

So, this morning the Secretary General for Science, Technology and Innovation, Maria Luisa Poncela Garcia, has awarded the distinction this morning the mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, M ª Ángeles Tunisia, in a ceremony held in the technology park of Móstoles, in which has recognized Puerto Lumbreras and three other municipalities of Spain: A Coruña, Adeje, and Salinas, which will become part of the network Cities Work of Science and Innovation to foster innovative projects or scientific in the locally.

Cities of Science and Innovation

Since 2010, municipalities are grouped distinguished in the Red City of Science and Innovation, a forum that aims to define innovative local policies and strengthen public-private cooperation in projects, management and science communication.

The distinction is obtained for a period of three years from winning municipalities to join the Network, permanent contact forum for sharing resources and information.

In this issue, the jury was presided over by the Mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre, and was composed by Ramón Pérez, the general direction of Telecommunications and Information Technology, Cesar Maurin, secretary of the R & D of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations and Margarita Gabiola, Secretary General of the Center for Industrial Technological Development.
