More than 100 people made the Water Route of Puerto Lumbreras to mark World Water Day (17/03/2014)

The Municipality of Puerto Lumbreras has launched a program of activities to promote social awareness of good habits in the use of water.

Magic shows and entertainment, lectures, educational workshops and tours to new Water Walking Puerto Lumbreras make this new program which will run throughout the month.

The Municipality of Puerto Lumbreras, through the Department of Agriculture, Water and districts, has designed a new program of activities to mark World Water Day is celebrated on March 22, and includes numerous initiatives and activities that promote social awareness and good habits in the use of water.

Thus, the programming began with the participation of more than 100 people in the Water Route of Puerto Lumbreras, a city tour 2 kilometers that begins with a visit to the Cueva del Agua and ends at the Fuente del Caño

The Councillor for Agriculture, Water and districts, José María Parra explained that "these activities aim to present the water harvesting systems in the history of the town, as well as raise awareness about the importance of using this natural resource" .

This urban water route to the visitor reveals the assets related to the feedback systems (ports), storage (rafts), distribution (ditches) and use (sources, sinks, mills) water present in the town of Puerto Lumbreras and its vicinity, as well as the choice of the location of the population by the founders of the town, because of the possibility of water supply.

Also, the program of activities to mark World Water Day continues with the conference "Water and Energy: A Framework for Human and Economic Development", aimed at primary school pupils in the four schools in the municipality.

This conference, to be held on 17, 18, 20 and 21 March, are aimed at pupils aged between 8 and 11 and involve the participation of a total of 270 students.

Parra explained that "this initiative also includes the installation of water saving in all schools in the municipality, with which children can appreciate the amount of water saved each of them."

Similarly, will host the conference "Water and Energy: The two great foundations for Sustainability" aimed at students of 1 degree of IES Nogalte Rambla.

Note that these sessions are conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Water of Murcia.
