On Tuesday, August 12 will see the fall of Perseids, popularly known as "shooting stars" or "tears of St. Lawrence", from the Astronomical Observatory Cabeza de la Jara.
The Municipality of Puerto Lumbreras, through the Department of Culture and Tourism in collaboration with the Astronomical Society of the Region of Murcia, has launched a program of guided night visits to the Astronomical Observatory of Cabeza de la Jara that develop during every Wednesday and Saturday in August to 15 September at around Cabezo la Jara.
Specifically, the campaign "Meet the Stars" offers guided tours, lectures and seminars outdoors and observing the different constellations through Telescope Observatory Cabeza de la Jara.
According to the Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Maribel Martinez, "the program allows you to bring the world of astronomy to the people and is established as an alternative to summer activities."
Also, on Tuesday August 12, there will be the "falling stars" also known as "tears of St. Lawrence", citizens may comment opencast Perseids and observations of Saturn and the Moon from telescopes in Youth Hostel esplanade Cabeza de la Jara and from the Astronomical Observatory.
Entry is free and interested persons may obtain further information at the Tourist Office of Puerto Lumbreras (652,902,268).
We note that these astronomical sessions are taught by members of the Astronomical Society of the Region of Murcia, and include an introductory talk to astronomy, where legends and curiosities about the constellations are also counted.
In addition, guided tours include knowledge session with an explanation of the sky with the naked eye, ending with the most important observation of celestial objects through the telescope in the dome of the Astronomical Observatory.
