The Ministry of Agriculture and Water, through the General Directorate of Irrigation and Rural Development, has awarded the City of Puerto Lumbreras aid of 132,950 euros from the Community Initiatives Leader for the creation of an ethnographic room with which it is intended to commemorate agricultural and pastoral traditions of the municipality and its local history.
The project, included in the first round of the Rural Development Programme for the Region of Murcia 2007-2013, involved the rehabilitation of the building that has traditionally functioned as a store of tillage, garage and blocks from the 'Casa del Cura' nineteenth century manor house included in the regional architectural heritage.
The new ethnographic museum has an internal floor area of ​​112 square feet on three rooms and two bathrooms, plus an adjoining area outdoors.
It has a permanent exhibits on farming and ranching traditions lumbrerenses, a classroom for the realization of children's workshops and a multipurpose hall for temporary exhibitions where you can watch documentaries and multimedia works on the history of local traditions.
The Director General of Irrigation and Rural Development, Julio Bernal, said "the tourism impact of such projects, contributing to the promotion of our municipalities, rural development and creating jobs."
This project is included in the line of support for conservation and upgrading of rural heritage, has been funded by 75 percent through the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD), and has been managed by the Local Action Group Campodos , Association for the Integral Development of the Campo de Cartagena.
