The Civil Guard detained a person for the violent death of a dog (06/07/2015)

The Civil Guard in the region of Murcia has developed recently, the operation 'GIRL' research led to the clarification of the violent death of a dog in Puerto Lumbreras, which has resulted in the arrest of a person who is authorship attributed the alleged crime of animal abuse.

The investigation began when the Civil Guard learned of the death of a dog, breed Andalusian buzzard winemaker, who was found by the owner, near his home, with multiple and severe cuts.

The animal was treated at a veterinary clinic where he died three days later due to the severity of injuries.

The Civil Guard, given the suspicions of a possible case of animal abuse resulting in death, contacted veterinarians who treated him finding out that, on arrival at the medical center had cuts on his neck, abdomen, lower back and hind limbs caused, allegedly with a sharp object, these wounds which caused his death.

The investigations carried out to clarify the facts determined that the animal, a domestic dog coming out every day for a few minutes from the home of the owner, gave off a strong smell of pig when he was found.

The Civil Guard found out that a neighbor of the environment an area of ​​scattered houses worked on a pig farm.

The investigation established also that the assault was committed in the vicinity and that the injuries had made it unlikely that the animal had returned from a long distance, to the home.

Operation 'GIRL' has culminated in the arrest of a male person, Spanish, 58 years and resident of Puerto Lumbreras suspicion of felony animal abuse.

The arrest and the proceedings have been brought before the Court of Instruction No. 4 of Lorca (Murcia).

The Civil Guard recalls that the crime of animal abuse is enshrined in the Criminal Code as justification the fact mistreat animals, domesticated or tamed, by whatever means.

The penalty punishing the perpetrators is compounded if the animal's death is caused, with penalties of six to 18 months' imprisonment and disqualification from two to four years, for the exercise of profession, trade or business that is related to the animals and holding them.
