Puerto Lumbreras recorded more than 8,900 tours in 2015 (31/01/2016)

Last year new tourism resources such as cave themed "The school in Medina Nogalte" new viewpoints "Nogalte Rambla" and "Cabezo de la Jara" or the recreation of a infraestructurahidráulicatradicional at Casa del Cura were launched.

The town of Puerto Lumbreras has significantly increased the number of tourist visits during the past year 2015, coinciding with the launch of new tourism offerings.

Thus, among the new tourism resources, we highlight the themed cave "School in Medina Nogalte" new viewpoints "Rambla Nogalte" and "Cabezo de la Jara" (located in the vicinity of the Castle) and recreation one infraestructurahidráulicatradicional at Casa del Cura.

In this regard, during the past year, Puerto Lumbreras registered 8,910 visits to the various products and tourist offers created locally.

Councillor for Tourism and Culture, Maria Victoria Jerez, explained that "in 2015 we increased the number of visitors and in 2016 we will continue organizing new tours and activities to further increase the number of visitors to our municipality."

To achieve this increase in tourist visits, the City Council have been launched throughout the year various tourist programs, which have included more than fifty tourist and cultural activities in different areas of the municipality as the tourist complex Medina Nogalte, the natural landscape of Cabezo de la Jara, as well as other tourist spots such as the Ethnographic Centre for agricultural and livestock traditions, the Water Route, Casa del Cura or the House Elves.

In this sense, the Councillor for Tourism and Culture stressed that "tourism is one of the big bets with which we intend to promote the economic development and job creation in our municipality."

Moreover, he added that "this year we have introduced a new attraction that significantly increase the number of visitors to our town in 2016, especially in the summer months, our new Astronomical Observatory Cabezo de la Jara".

Resort Medina Nogalte

There have been 3,271 visits in Medina Nogalte Tourist Complex, which have been developed dramatized nocturnal visits, festivals, guided tours, free tours and cultural events throughout the summer.

Specifically, the theming of the cave houses located next to Castle Nogalte is the adaptation of tourist areas, through a cultural tourism itinerary where visitors are aware of the Islamic fortress, the cave houses, the importance water or crafts for the local economy.

Rural tourism in the Natural Park Cabezo de la Jara
