Puerto Lumbreras developed a draft comprehensive care to the Roma community (02/02/2016)

The project includes traffic education workshop, workshop socio-work skills, literacy courses for adults and kindergarten service for Roma children.

It will also carry out a school parent / Gypsy mothers and school mediation support to facilitate the retention of students in the classroom.

The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, through the Department of Social Policy, has promoted a new project under the theme "Integral Attention to the Roma community" to promote the successful integration of this group in the municipality.

Thus, through this project, and until May 31, they are launching a series of actions aimed at the Roma community.

Specifically, it has scheduled a workshop on road safety education for Roma, and has also organized a workshop on reading, writing and arithmetic focused on functional illiterate adult population of the Roma community.

In addition, a kindergarten service for Gypsies minors, shall encourage recreational activities as a tool for social integration and communication will be launched.

In this sense, the kindergarten service solidarity and acceptance of difference between attitudes they encourage children by promoting values ​​education, human rights, social cohesion and equal opportunities.

Furthermore, within this project, already it is begun to develop a training workshop on socio-occupational basic skills for adult Roma conducted by a psychologist.

In addition, it is also planned a school parent / Gypsies and support mothers in the work of school mediation to facilitate the retention of students in the classroom.

The mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Maria Angeles Tunisia, explained that "the objective we want to achieve is to promote the development of policy strategies aimed at the integral promotion of the Roma community, as well as prevention, treatment and disposal of causes that lead to social exclusion of a significant segment of this population. "

Finally, the Mayor added that "we implement these services to increase social welfare and quality of life of Roma families, while respecting cultural difference."

Note that this project has been launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Family and Equal Opportunities of the Autonomous Community, through the Instituto Murciano Social Action.
