It runs the new phase of works to improve accessibility to the Old Town (19/06/2008)

Councilman Works and Environment, Eliseo Sanchez and Councilwoman Social Policy, M ª Angeles Tunisia have visited this morning the streets and in the old town of Puerto Lumbreras which will take place actions to improve accessibility by removing architectural barriers and paving of streets established in the I Accessibility Plan 2004-2012.

Accessibility works will start in August, to cause the least possible problems to the locals, will run for a month and a half to cause the least environmental impact.

With a budget of 100,000 euros, funded jointly by European funds (ERDF), the Autonomous Community (IMSERSO), ONCE Foundation and the Municipality of Puerto Lumbreras include in the amendment of longitudinal and transverse slopes, and the adaptation of stairs and sidewalks on sections of streets Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente, Dr. Fleming, Ezequiel Lopez and Estrella Street.

The specific actions developed in the most ancient tourist town, under the Castle Nogalte, include the creation of fords, pending modification of longitudinal and transverse alignment of sidewalks and stairs, improved street furniture and landscaping, demolition existing pavement with replacement of new paving, in the creation of ramps that allow easy access to the garages, as well as refurbishment of the houses where there is a difference in height between the pavement of the street and inside the building for how to access the neighbors.

The council stressed this morning 'the importance of the removal of architectural barriers in public areas because of the need to adapt urban spaces to new standards of accessibility for citizens with limited mobility to navigate through these areas without may find the difficulties involved in the above barriers. "

This project is framed within the Municipal Accessibility Plan adapting to the rules of the State and the Autonomous Region, both in the modification of spaces and buildings as elements of social demands, adapting the urban conditions of the area to the conditions the Law on habitability in residential buildings and general promotion of accessibility.
