Twenty young people from Europe and Asia participate in archaeological work in the International Labor Camp Puerto Lumbreras (07/08/2008)

The director of the Institute for Youth, Veronica Lopez, accompanied by the councilman of Youth council of Puerto Lumbreras, Mariano Carrasco, today visited the twenty young people during the month of August participating in the International Labor Camp Archaeology Puerto Lumbreras, which this year marks its ninth edition.

The volunteers, aged between 18 and 26, come from different countries in Europe and Asia.

Three of them come from Germany, four from France, three from Turkey, one of South Korea, one from Japan and eight in Spain.

For two weeks, the volunteers will work archaeological Nogalte Castle, situated on top of the hill of Castellar, in the town of Puerto Lumbreras, on the right side of the avenue Nogalte.

It is a medieval Islamic period (XII-XIII).

The entire hill has many cave houses, which are the most important example of regional rock habitat.

The archaeological work will also be developed in the Tower of Bishops, located in the town of Esparragal-Station.

The youth will participate in workshops, washing, sorting, inventory, and marking of archaeological materials.

Along with the archaeological activities have been organized cultural, ethnological and animation.

Young people will participate in cultural tours, slide shows, leather workshops, astronomy, cultural gymkhana, parties and entertainment activities.

The International Work Camp Archaeology Puerto Lumbreras began on 4 August and will run until 18th of this month.

During this period, young people will stay at the Youth Hostel "Cabeza de la Jara" in Puerto Lumbreras.
