The new sewage treatment reuse Puerto Lumbreras 5,000 cubic meters of water per day to supply more than 50,000 (14/10/2008)

The president of the Community, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, accompanied by Director General for Water, Miguel Angel Rodenas, and the mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, today opened the new wastewater treatment plant in Puerto Lumbreras, which will restore 5,000 cubic meters per day for a population of 50,000.

The plant, which has been designed with closed buildings and deodorized to reduce the impact on the landscape of the area, employing the tertiary system, "a more demanding than the European Union provides for water quality and pollutant removal," said President Murcia.

Valcarcel said "also plays a key objective to generate water quality for citizens and the irrigators in this county who have no other resources."

The investment in this infrastructure is seven million euros, financed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Water and the Cohesion Fund of the European Union, which also includes a general collector of 4.2 kilometers in length to channel and transport water.

The new facility also provides a treatment system for extended aeration and biological process of nitrogen removal, allowing treatment of 1.5 cubic hectometres a year of top quality.

In addition, collectors are building two rainwater tanks with an investment of 540,000 euros.

The regional chief executive said during a visit to the sewage treatment plant "in the Region of Murcia perform a comprehensive and efficient management of water", and recalled that more than 100 re hectometres of water per year, which accounts for 25 percent of the national total.

This new infrastructure is in addition to other important works that the General Plan of cleansing and purifying of the Murcia region is developing in the Community, whose objectives are to provide all municipalities and small towns of the region with high capacity for sewage treatment effective water treatment.

Once you have set up treatment plants in the most important centers of the region and has completed the provisions of General Plan of cleansing and purifying of the Region, the regional government's efforts are directed now to small towns.

The Community is building collectors that will bring the waters of these small cores to the treatment plants.
