Puerto Lumbreras held the First Meeting of the Saharawi People Help (21/10/2008)

The councilman of Culture, Isabel Garcia, the mayor of Volunteering, Lina Gázquez, the director of Encuentro, Isabel Quiñonero and musical program coordinator, Cotes Diego presented this morning the First Meeting in Support of the Saharawi people to be held next Saturday Cultural Center of Puerto Lumbreras.

This initiative in which more than a dozen musical groups, aims to raise funds to be allocated entirely to draft a school for disabled people in the Wilaya of Samara, in Tindouf.

This initiative involves a dozen bands, most local training on a date which will start at 19.00 at the Cultural Center of the town lumbrerense.

More than thirty volunteers have joined as volunteers working on this project, led by the coordinator of the meeting, Isabel Quiñonero, which have also helped the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, Telemag, Films and Camels Bausan Nogalte as well as numerous pubs and shops in the locality.

Among the most important holdings is the popular actor lumbrerense Ginés García Millán.

The joint entrance fee is five euros, soft drink or beer included, and will enable the participants learn about the history of a people in exile in one of the most inhospitable places on earth, the hamada.

Among the participants are musicians Alicia Tamayo, blouse-Two, Miriam García, La Banda de Ginés, Opaque Men, Sex Banana Split, Aucio Something, Something Electrical, Broken Promises, No Name Band, Ants, Fence, Biscuters, Senile Dementia, Overdose and The Peppers.

The musical performances will be interspersed with music and photos of the Saharawi people and the Sahara as a cultural approach, and the screening of Lalia documentary, actress and filmmaker Silvia Munt, who was approved as the 1999 Goya Awards Best Documentary, Audience Award at the Bilbao International Festival, Solidarity Award and Best Music in Alcala de Henares and the first prize in Madrid FORD, all in the same year.
