Puerto Lumbreras commitment to training with the creation of a School of Hospitality (29/01/2009)

The School of Hospitality will be the first in the region of Guadalentín and improve employment for disadvantaged groups through the professionalization in the sector, thus generating a new economic opportunity in the territory and gaining more attractive to the rest of the population.

Highly qualified training is considered a priority for the tourism sector and a formula to generate employment.

For this reason, the municipality lumbrerense invest two million euros for the implementation of the works this year.

"The tourism sector is an opportunity for the development of municipalities, an avenue for job creation, a way to generate wealth betting on sustainable growth and regeneration areas, with these words qualify the mayor of Puerto and Regional Assembly deputy, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, opportunities offered by the future development of tourism for the Region of Murcia.

"This community has seen a significant increase in this area," announces the municipal mayor, "and its outlook for growth and expansion in quality tourism offer an ever-expanding horizon for regional development."

For this reason, the municipal government has launched a project that will culminate in the creation of a School of Hotel in Puerto Lumbreras, which will facilitate the increase of the training to obtain a skilled job and prepared to respond to the demands generated.

Pedro Antonio Sánchez adds that "the School of Hospitality enables the convergence of the needs of industry and population, as it offers the opportunity to create quality jobs that drive the development of this area and which qualifies for tourism professionals the future of the autonomous region needs. "

The School of Hospitality will be located very close to the Parador Nacional de Turismo de Puerto Lumbreras, on a plot of public facilities and consist of a three-storey building with a total of 2,100 meters built.

On the ground floor are located the restaurant, the kitchen and the customer service area, while the first floor will contain six classrooms (one comprised of computers), library and offices.

The common areas and cafeteria will be located on the second floor.

The main objective of the project is to provide Puerto Lumbreras infrastructure and mechanisms needed to become a national benchmark in the hospitality sector in the field of training, for what is set aside two million euros.

"It is imperative that the city contribute to the diversification of economic activities by encouraging the creation of new opportunities and the response of qualified and prepared to offer the best of themselves," says the mayor.

This school will qualify to the workers in the hospitality sector gaining more attractive to the rest of the population and opening up new employment and business opportunities.

A municipality committed to quality and training

Puerto Lumbreras has specialized training often used as a valid formula to generate employment and provide qualified services for emerging industries.

In the case of tourism and hospitality, have been frequent courses and programs organized by the Consistory in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, particularly in the field of hotel and restaurant.

During the past three years, and especially for young people of the municipality, this training was an opportunity to specialize in areas such as kitchen helper and waiter, wine novice, the marriage between wine and food or cocktelería.
