Puerto Lumbreras focuses on sustainable development and combating climate change through Ecopuerto Plan, the signing of the Covenant of Mayors and its commitment to Local Agenda 21
Mayor Puerto Lumbreras, Pedro Antonio Sanchez, has participated in the Third Edition of the Conference on Biomass and Energy Efficiency held on 25 and 26 March at the University of Jaén.
Sanchez has been involved with the presentation "Energy Efficiency in the municipal area 'in which he explained the initiatives undertaken by Puerto Lumbreras in this area, as well as the commitment to sustainable development and combating climate change.
"Puerto Lumbreras sustainable growth has become a basic objective of his government, so we were the first town in Spain who accepted the challenge of the Covenant of Mayors.
Our goal is to become a green city by involving all citizens in the conservation of natural heritage, "said the mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Pedro Antonio Sánchez.
Bióptima 09 provides a forum for debate with an international, scientific-technical and business, which is then draw conclusions that will guide the design and development of the Third Edition of Bióptima Fair to be held in May 2010.
The conference, which has involved the mayor of Puerto Lumbreras with European Commission representatives and members of the energy sector, have focused on Biomass, Energy Efficiency and Mobility.
The town of Puerto Lumbreras has been invited to this university forum for its active work to become a green city.
Its activities focus on sustainable development and combating climate change through many initiatives such as the Covenant of Mayors whose main objective is the reduction of 20% CO2 emissions by 2012.
On the other hand, the municipality has Ecopuerto Project, a plan of action on Climate Change includes 153 measures that have already launched over 45.
This plan of action of Puerto Lumbreras is an initiative that is built on the basis of the Local Agenda 21, which aims to Puerto Lumbreras have a carbon neutral carbon and stands out for its strong commitment to sustainability.
"It is essential to grow and do so responsibly, and therefore the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras continue putting in place measures to reduce by 20% CO2 emissions and to mitigate the effects of climate change," said Pedro Antonio Sánchez.
The mayor, who announced at the conference that will be allocated 700,000 euros to improve sustainable mobility in Puerto Lumbreras, also explained some initiatives introduced to Puerto Lumbreras in the international project "Citta Slow", whose main aim is to use mode life of the municipalities to protect natural heritage and the roots of their culture in all its manifestations.
A Citta Show must go for environmental architecture to reconstruct historical sites and prioritize green areas and parks.
These activities include environmental policy, infrastructure development in the territory and the deployment of technologies to improve the quality of the environment and the urban network.
"Puerto Lumbreras will become a green city in which citizens live in a less frantic and quick to opt for a productive and ecologically sustainable in a city with a town flavor," adds Pedro Antonio Sánchez.
