Puerto Lumbreras is hosting this weekend the Championship of Spain Cycling Adapted (13/05/2009)

The town of Puerto Lumbreras will host the next 15, 16 and 17 May Championship Adapted Cycling Spain involving more than a hundred athletes from all over the country, among them medalists Beijing Paralympic Games World Cycling Championship Adapted.

"For Puerto Lumbreras is a pleasure to contribute to the organization of such a prestigious event in the Spanish Paralympic sport.

With the conclusion of the championship, the city will gather great athletes who won medals both globally and in the last Paralympic Games in Beijing, "said the mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Pedro Antonio Sánchez.

The championship, organized by the Cycling Club Ginés García, in collaboration with the Municipality of Puerto Lumbreras, will begin on Friday, 15 accreditation, dorsal collection and presentation of all participating athletes.

On Saturday 16 sporting events will start from 9.30 am with the individual race against the different circuits, while Sunday will continue the road touring championship.

After testing, at 13.00 hours Sunday, the ceremony will be held which will conclude with the championship trophy and jersey to the leaders of each category.

The tests are divided into modes depending on the type of defects will be two tours in Puerto Lumbreras, the first of them has a distance of 17 kilometers, and the second with 8 kilometers.

The tests will both tandems of ONCE, as with physical disabilities in four categories according to disability (LC1, LC2, LC3, LC4), and cerebral palsy by bike (D3 and D4) as a tricycle (D1 and D2 .)

The championship includes HandCycling mode in which athletes participate in three-wheeled bicycle manuals.

Participants in the Championship of Spain Cycling Adapted medalists highlight Vicente Arzo, Juan Méndez, Javier Otxoa or Roberto Alcaide.

The competition will involve more than a hundred athletes who have physical disabilities, cerebral palsy or visual impairments.
