Puerto Lumbreras involved in Phase II Daphne Spire Project against violence against women held in England (06/06/2009)

The municipality has development seminars throughout the month for the findings of the first phase of research that has involved more than a hundred lumbrerenses from related fields such as educational, health, local police or Civil Guard

The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras has participated in the second phase of European Spire Daphne working to eradicate gender violence in rural areas.

The working meeting held in the UK, brought together the coordinators of the project in the city with members from Sweden, Greece and England, countries participating in the European program with Puerto Lumbreras.

"The coordinators who have traveled to the United Kingdom have set out the findings to set the actions that will promote the project in its final phase.

These conclusions have been obtained through seminars and meetings that the City has developed throughout the month and which have involved various groups related to the project such as the Local Police, Civil Guard or personal health and education of Puerto Lumbreras " highlights the mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Pedro Antonio Sánchez.

The sessions have addressed the coordinators in the UK have also been used to determine the views regarding gender violence in rural areas, the information needs of the services available in municipalities, as well as training that may be specific groups users near the project.

In this sense, the Mayor, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, added that "participants in this meeting have contrasted the perceptions of all key actors around the victims at European level.

This information will proceed to design a series of information materials and promote educational programs that promote the eradication of this type of violence through public awareness. "

In addition, the workshop has begun the third phase which includes the official presentation of the project's website, the dissemination of information materials, the implementation of training programs for participating municipalities and the management of a external evaluation to advance the project to a high standard of quality.

"The last phase of the project will promote information programs and training interventions in the rural area which will benefit 220 local organizations and 880 individual beneficiaries in the four countries participating in the project," concluded the Mayor, Pedro Antonio Sánchez.
