The Folk Museum and Center for Puerto Lumbreras "a milestone in the preservation of heritage" (02/07/2009)

The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, and the mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, posted this morning the first stone of the Folk Museum and Center 'Virgen del Rosario' in the municipality.

With this center, Puerto Lumbreras becomes "a municipality in the preservation of tangible and intangible heritage," said Cruz, and "marks a milestone as the management culture of respect traditions" while "is the first center in the region trying to cover the folklore and tradition in all its aspects."

The ceremony was also attended by the President of the Federation of Associations of Songs and Dances of Spain, Jose Serrano, the president of the Regional Association of Songs and Dances Francisco Salzillo, Joaquín Rubio, and representatives of the Association of Songs and Dances' Virgen del Rosario '.

The new space will house the Museum of Folklore of Puerto Lumbreras and will host the group's Songs and Dances 'Virgen del Rosario', will also feature a residential area that will accommodate folk groups from other communities to the development of festivals and activities culture in the municipality.

Cruz also referred to a lever which will be a space "in an area that needed economic and social momentum", while stressing that "the fact that commitment to culture and tourism is a sign of pragmatism and being the up with the times. "

Finally, the Minister of Culture stressed the "perfect balance that is being established in Puerto Lumbreras between the recovery of the past, preservation and promotion of traditions, and, secondly, a strong commitment to contemporary and experimental."

For his part, Pedro Antonio Sanchez said the new Centre and Folk Museum Virgen del Rosario will allow for greater cultural promotion of the folk tradition in the town while representing a step in the recovery of the old town of Puerto Lumbreras to give an attractive tourism related to culture, and to be located with other infrastructure such as the Museum of the guilds, which will open soon, or the House of the brotherhoods.

Infrastructure, which will house both the Museum and the Folk Center, have a total investment of 920,188 euros, funded between the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Municipality of Puerto Lumbreras.

The new equipment, which have lead time of twelve months, will be built on a plot of 233 square meters.

The building will have basement and three floors arranged in 944 square meters.

The basement area clinic includes folk costumes, iron and sewing area and toilets and storage folk instruments while the ground floor will house the Museum of Folklore of Puerto Lumbreras, embroidery and music, public toilets and external access to the museum and the rest of the building.

For its part, the first floor includes ballroom and trials for the development of cultural and folk.

Moreover, this first floor is complemented by halls and toilets.

Finally, the floor penthouse will have a test track outside, toilets, lounge and multipurpose and bedroom residence that will accommodate folk groups from other communities to develop festivals and cultural activities in the municipality.

The current group of Songs and Dances 'Virgen del Rosario' was established in 1980, and currently make up more than 40 people, including members of the rondalla and dancers.

His work focuses on the conservation, restoration and distribution of music, dance and traditional costumes of the town.
