Puerto Lumbreras celebrates Independence Day with the presentation of awards to citizens and institutions (08/07/2009)

Joaquin Lopez, LUMBRERENSE YEAR

Joaquín López was born in Puerto Lumbreras in 1968.

Since childhood his passion is playing football, but at age 14 is diagnosed with congenital lymphedema of the lower extremities that prevents him from following the sport.

After several years of medical and rehabilitation in different clinics, he recognizes his disability.

At age 30, on medical advice, starts in cycling as a mere amateur, and in 2006 obtained a federal license through the Spanish Sports Federation for Physically Handicapped and is part of the Cycling Club Ginés García de Puerto Lumbreras.

Following their participation in various national championships Adapted Cycling, cycling gear and the Paralympic Bira, Joaquín López was appointed in 2007 member of the board of the Sports Federation of the Physically Disabled in the Region of Murcia, is part of the Board Directive Ginés García Peña Ciclista.
