The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, through European programs in the Mediterranean Basin, has applied for participation in the Agro-Food Clusters project, which aims to position the companies that specialize in traditional food products.

Through this project, the municipality will promote both companies and food products to facilitate their adaptation to national and international markets.

"With the Agro-Food Clusters project which aim is to promote the strategic dynamic of the power sector and the traditional products of the municipality through activities to promote exchange processes and strategic direction of companies.

This is the food industry to take a more competitive position, close to a more global consumer, "said the Mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Pedro Antonio Sánchez.

The Mediterranean program was established as multilateral cooperation program that comes with the new European Neighbourhood Policy, which aims to help create a ring of stability, security and prosperity around the enlarged European Union.

This new policy seeks to strengthen ties between countries through various collaborative programs.

Agro-Food Clusters constitutes one of the programs of collaboration that aims to raise production quotas and the addition of new traditional food products on the market.

In addition, the program will improve the competitiveness of the tender with actions that promote the improvement of systems, structures of production and marketing of products through cooperation between European companies.

In this sense, the Mayor, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, added that "Puerto Lumbreras is and has been a city of great gastronomic tradition, and that throughout its history has established itself as a as a transit.
