According to the Councillor for Equal Opportunities, Lina Gázquez, "Last week we get more than 150 people join the volunteer network formed by the Municipality of Puerto Lumbreras.
Through the Platform of civic responsibility, the municipality has collected certain items like appliances, phones, computers, school supplies, books and toys to deliver to others in need and most limited resources.
On the other hand, the information booth served to attract volunteers for a major project that has started from the session as is to expand the Volunteer Network.
Through this project, the municipality will work in three directions, social action, which includes volunteering for the elderly, immigrants and people with disabilities or special needs youth volunteering, which includes the field of environmental activities and European projects, and Finally, the volunteer network, which consists in creating a website where volunteers offer their help to others through new technologies.
The program offers many benefits among which we highlight the increasing number of services available to the beneficiaries, by providing a greater variety of services and individualized programs, education for solidarity, activation of citizen participation, social integration and the important economic contribution that such networks to society.
"Through this new project, the Department of Equal Opportunities, in collaboration with the Directorate General of Volunteers in the Region of Murcia, aims to foster such solidarity movements, expanding services and maintaining its durability over time.
It is also planned to create a network of volunteers to enhance the actions of solidarity, civic participation and general awareness of the problems that others close to our environment suffer, "adds Councillor for Equal Opportunities, Lina Gázquez.
