Public Works removed from a stretch of concentration of accidents in Puerto Lumbreras (29/11/2009)

The Ministry of Public Works and Planning, through the Directorate General of Highways, in the coming weeks will begin construction of a new roundabout on the road connecting the town of Puerto Lumbreras Railway Station (RM -D16), a performance that will lead to the removal of a section marked concentration of accidents in the municipality.

The roundabout will be built at the intersection of RM-D16 with the Way of the Gun, a rural road linking the highway to the north of the garden of Puerto Lumbreras and gives access to many farms, livestock and agricultural facilities, and housing.

The work, contracted to a company in Murcia, have a deadline of five months and a budget of 298,100 euros, to be funded entirely by the regional executive.

Thus, the performance will improve road safety in this area between the station Esparragal and Puerto Lumbreras, characterized by high traffic density, which exceeds one million vehicles a year.

The Director of Roads, Jose Guijarro, said that "the construction of roundabouts is one of the most effective measures for reducing accidents in the risk areas, through improved traffic conditions and safety drivers. "

Also, Jose Guijarro stressed that "this action reflects the commitment of the regional government to signal and then delete the sections of existing accident concentration in the Road Network of the Autonomous Community, as has happened with this black spot, which was marked to warn motorists of the danger, and whose works are initiated phase now.
