Puerto Lumbreras welcomes the Third Phase of the European project Spire Daphne working against violence against women in rural areas (21/01/2010)

Project coordinators, along with representatives from all participating countries have gathered in Puerto Lumbreras to work on the third phase of the project will benefit 220 local organizations and 880 individual beneficiaries in the four participating countries.

The town of Puerto Lumbreras has hosted the third working phase of the Daphne Spire project that works to raise awareness about domestic violence in rural areas.

Project coordinators, along with representatives from European Union countries such as Sweden, Greece and United Kingdom have participated in the working day on which planned the final phase of the project which includes implementation of concrete actions to work against gender violence in rural areas.

The meeting, which has developed in the new Entrepreneurship Center in Puerto Lumbreras, have come to the Councillor for Equal Opportunities, Lina Gázquez, the Councillor for Social Policy, M ÂŞ Angeles Tunisia, coach of European projects of the Institute for Women, Andres Abad, as well as project managers in the European countries involved.

According to the Councillor for Equal Opportunities, Lina Gázquez, "the essence of this project, and more specifically, this third phase of work is the increased awareness on gender violence in society.

According to the research and analysis carried out throughout the year, the final part will develop a series of training and development interventions to operate across the EU. "

The working sessions, which have developed in all countries participating in the project, serve to identify points of view regarding gender violence in rural areas, the information needs of the services available in municipalities, as well as training that may require certain user groups near the project.

Specifically, the third phase of the project which has worked in the county, includes the official presentation of the web Daphne, dissemination of information materials, the implementation of training programs in the participating municipalities, as well as managing an external evaluation system to promote the project to a high standard of quality.

Moreover, the last phase of the project will promote information programs and training interventions in the rural area which will benefit 220 local organizations and 880 individual beneficiaries in the four countries participating in the project.

In this sense, the Councillor for Equal Opportunities, Lina Gázquez, stressed that "Daphne Spire project contributes to the development of rural areas in the social field.

Proper training and the creation of better mechanisms of action will help to raise awareness about gender violence, and in turn will report on steps to take when it detects a case of violence. "

This third phase of work done in Puerto Lumbreras includes analysis of the results of the participants as well as planning the last phase of project performance.

In addition, coinciding with the visit of members of all participating countries, the City Council, in collaboration with the Institute of Women of the Region of Murcia, has scheduled visits to different areas of the municipality and the region, among which is included Care Center Women Victims of Violence in Murcia.
