The Consumer Information Bureau assisted over 500 citizens and trained over 1,500 students in 2009 (07/02/2010)

The Municipal Office of Consumer Information reached more than 500 citizens in 2009.

92% of these queries and complaints have been on the services sector have highlighted particular claims in basic supplies such as electricity, mobile telephony, fixed telephony, Internet and water

The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, through the Municipal Bureau of Information to Consumers (OMIC), attended last year 2009 to more than 500 citizens and was at 1,500 students in all schools in the municipality.

Councillor for Health and Consumer Affairs, Gloria Matilde García Caballero, presented the 2009 statistics OMIC, coinciding with the start of the new seminars on responsible consumption in schools.

According to the Councillor for Health and Consumer Affairs, Gloria Matilde García Caballero, "in 2009 Consumer Information Office of Puerto Lumbreras has assisted more than 180 inquiries and 300 complaints.

Through this public service we promote and defend the interests of consumers with information, advice and training programs "

92% of these queries and complaints from 2009 have been on the service sector, where especially highlighted claims in basic supplies such as electricity, mobile telephony, fixed telephony, Internet and water, followed by claims made on repair services , financial services, insurance and passenger transport.

On the other hand, Statistics 2009, shows that the products and goods subsector accounts for numerous complaints concerning the sale of computer and audiovisual supplies, followed by acquisition of mobile phones and the like.

Last year they had special incidence claims made with the change paid the electricity bill, from bimonthly to monthly, as well as complaints arising from the liberalization of the energy sector, which was launched on 1 July 2009, and the correct application of the social bond.

Because of the liberalization of the electricity sector from the Department Health and Consumer Affairs conducted various workshops, held in different Pensioner Homes of Puerto Lumbreras and the Esparragal, in which people are informed about the liberalization of the electricity market.

Training programs in responsible consumption

The OMIC, through the Instituto Murciano Consumption and in collaboration with the Department of Health, launched in 2009 a total of 76 seminars in different schools in the municipality.

The workshops, involving over 1,500 students, addressed issues related to responsible consumption and prevention of child accidents, toys, misleading and abusive use of new technologies.
