Puerto Lumbreras received a 40% increase in tourist visits organized during the last year (23/02/2010)

The town of Puerto Lumbreras increased by over 40% the number of organized tours in 2009.

The City, through the Office of Tourism, organized more than 7,000 tourist visits over the past year, increasing nearly 4,000 visitors received during 2008.

According to the Councillor for Tourism, Ginés David Piñero, "tourism is a key area for development of Puerto Lumbreras, and an opportunity for economic growth.

Through the Office of Tourism we have increased the offer to stay organized in the municipality with a wide range of tourist, cultural and leisure. "

Specifically, the tourists who came to town in 2009 through the visits organized by the Tourist Office, made several visits to the municipality as emblematic areas are Nogalte Castle and the environment Cueva de las Casas, the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary Visitors Center, as well as urban and commercial center of Puerto Lumbreras.

In addition to visits to monuments and major cultural sites, 4,000 people visited the Astronomical Observatory of the municipality through the "Meet the Stars', which includes an outdoor lecture that explains the basics of astronomy through Astronomical Observatory telescope Cabezo de la Jara.
